How To Move To Spain As An American

I've been obsessed with moving to Spain for over two years. It was in Barcelona where I finished writing my manuscript, Once Upon A Forever. Which was also the last time I completed a manuscript.

Everyone I meet and everyone I know, knows my obsession with Spain.

So, you can imagine how during the last two years I've done massive research in how I could move there while being the holder of an American passport. The passport only allows me to stay no more than 90 days in a 180 day period. That wouldn't be enough. I wanted to live there forever. Which meant I'd need to live there no less than five years to obtain residency.

The cards were stacked against me.

I spent two years asking questions, joining all the expat communities for Americans in Spain and came up with no solution that would allow me to live there for the length of time I wanted.

Sure, I could have easily signed up for a TEFL course, but again that would only allow me to stay for 3 months. And, most jobs require you to have a Bachelors degree to teach english.

Here I was, a published author of 8 books, feeling defeated.

Until a few days ago.

Finally, my searches resulted in one solution. ONE company that offers a year-long TEFL course. One year- check! Then, I kept looking around their website and found out how to stay for another year-taking the year-long Spanish course. Second year- check!

And, it couldn't have come at a better time. The kid is finishing up her school year which means we can spend the summer emerged in the culture and she can take some Spanish classes (I'm Puerto Rican. So, I can get by on the Spanish I currently know.)

So, why did I want to share this with you?

To show you that what you desire is possible. Were there moments I thought it was never going to happen? Yes. Did I give up? No. I did, however, journal every day (almost every day) and I kept visualizing myself living in Spain.

There are going to be moments when you want to give up. Moments that you don't believe your dreams are going to come true, but that's when you have to keep going, keep the faith strong that the universe always give us what we desire.

It's only then, that true miracles happen.
